TIM FRENCH

ARTIST STATEMENT

My artwork represents an examination of the dark aspects of my personality. For me, art making has never been a choice, but rather a catharsis, or a psychological need to purge the contents of my mind. Much like the Surrealist, I use dream imagery and intuition to bring forth the irrational and sometimes dangerous aspects of my personality; but, unlike the Surrealist, my goal or desire is to examine, understand and positively integrate the rational and irrational aspects of my personality.

BIO

Born in eastern North Carolina, Tim French holds a Bachelor of fine arts degree from the Atlanta College of Art, Atlanta Georgia and a Master of Fine Arts from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. He presently resides in Swansboro, NC.

MARC ROCHE

ARTIST STATEMENT

My art is an expression of the world around me and the way the people, places, and situations filter into my own experience. I create and use personal symbols and mythologies to take these experiences and process them through my mind’s eye into images and stories that are intended to express these perceptions. I also use experimentation with new media to create the feeling of unexplored territories where I have to fight against the medium to attain these images.

Dreamlike states and the irrational are sources of inspiration, and they create the conditions that allow these images to flow freely.
