Rhythmic hikes. The shifting sounds of nature. The hum of our own thoughts and emotions: rising and falling like the topography we traverse, appearing and disappearing like passing clouds. These are the moments that inspire.
Familiar Ridges
My time in nature frequently feels deeply familiar to me, but no experience—or moment—is exactly the same. From the ever-changing sky to the sound of swaying grass; time outdoors allows us to reflect on impermanence and embrace the shifting moments that are the only constant part of the human condition. Paintings, by their very nature, are depictions of a single moment.
Through quick energetic marks and layers of paint I strive to create landscapes that capture the constant flux of nature and our experience as a part of it. A continuous change of natural light on a painting provides the viewer the chance to view it with new experiences, new associations, and unique emotions. Paintings, like nature, can feel familiar, but on closer inspection they are not as concrete as we sometimes assume.
